How to Take a Better ID Photo
A good crop cannot fix a bad source photo. Follow these tips to capture a high-quality original image:
Face a window with indirect sunlight. Avoid strong shadows across your face or behind your head. Flash photography often creates harsh, unacceptable shadows.
Stand about 1.5 to 2 feet away from a clean, plain wall to avoid casting a shadow on the wall itself.
Have someone else take the photo, or use a tripod. The camera should be exactly at eye level. Selfies are generally not accepted because the focal length distorts facial features.
Don't crop too tight when taking the photo. Leave plenty of space above your head and below your shoulders so you have room to position the crop later.
